If you get a popup requesting a license code when launching OpticStudio or have any troubles after entering your code this article will detail steps to resolve it, as well as other related issues. This article applies to those who have a Black USB license plugged into the machine with Opticstudio, or are connected to a network license server with this key type.
These key types have a serial number of If you see this dialog box, your copy of OpticStudio is correctly installed and the license key is recognized by the software.
You just need a license code to allow this version of OpticStudio to run with your key. To request a license code:. Reply to the Zemax support team with a screenshot of the license code box, as well as the license number such as and the license code you are entering.
They can verify the code is correct and provide other troubleshooting tips as needed. Be aware that license codes are specific to the license serial number such as and release of Opticstudio installed.
So you must install the same release of Opticstudio and use the same USB license when reusing the license code. If your license is not eligible to run a release, Zemax support will let you know your options when they reply. Normally you will only be asked once, when you first launch the software. If you log in to the computer with a different account or change the DATA folder to a new one, you may be asked again for the code.
These actions remove the corresponding license code file. You can exchange your license for a new red USB license or softkey license.

Zemax Software and Service Pack Releases Zemax software evolves over time with each new release replacing the previous version. Zemax Software Release Policy As new versions of the software are released, older ones are phased out.
Zemax provides download links to older versions and technical support for those versions for a limited time. The following policies govern technical support for and availability of Zemax software releases. After two 2 years it will be removed from the website and will no longer be provided.
Zemax will not provide additional Service Pack releases once an updated version of the software is released. Support will be provided on installation issues provided the license has a current support agreement. A license that is eligible for a software release is not automatically eligible for subsequent service pack releases.

After doing this, press Next to proceed.
You will then be prompted to select a location to install OpticStudio. Click Next to proceed. You can specify the Start Menu folder name. We recommend that you do not change this from the default of "Zemax OpticStudio. Zemax OpticStudio Zemax License Manager. The next section will describe how to activate your OpticStudio license. After you have installed OpticStudio, you must activate your softkey license. As a first step to activating your license, you must complete setting up your MyZemax account.
If you do not complete your MyZemax account, you will not be able to activate your license. When you received your new OpticStudio license, you also should have received an email inviting you to join MyZemax. Enter a password and complete the prompts to finish setting up your account.
Note: the email address associated with your MyZemax account is the email address at which you received the invitation. Also, be aware you may transfer the license to use OpticStudio on another machine if needed.
